How to Practice Self-Care During a Global Pandemic

Updated: Feb 20

During a global pandemic like COVID-19 it can be tempting to shut yourself indoors until the calamity passes. Many people are doing this, but they are finding that they are bored, stressed, and letting themselves go physically and mentally. So, what should you be doing during a pandemic to stay healthy? Try the following three tips.

Destress

Destressing is extremely important in a time like this. These are difficult times; you may be insecure about your job or your health. There is a lot of misinformation going around and you will easily fall victim to it if you are stressed out. There are many things that you can do to de-stress in a healthy way. Meditation is a great way for you to organize your thoughts and let the pressures of the day wash away.

You may even wish to try some form of medication or supplements. CBD has been used to treat anxiety, insomnia, and PTSD. CBD is often mistaken to be a drug like marijuana. It’s important to realize that you can’t get high from CBD. In fact, CBD lessens the effect of chemicals that are capable of giving you a high. When from a reputable source, CBD is a safe, natural, and healthy supplement that can help you relax.

Boost your Immune System

In order to stay healthy, you need to be participating in activities that will boost your immune system. Focus on maintaining a healthy diet. Make sure that you are getting plenty of vitamin C. Some excellent sources are citrus fruits like oranges, and vegetables like broccoli and Brussel sprouts. Where government restrictions permit, go outside and get some sun. Just make sure that you are always being responsible and maintaining a safe social distance from other individuals.

Social Distance Exercising

If you’re not careful, quarantine can end up causing you to gain a significant amount of weight. Cut off from sports and the gym, you may be wondering what you can be doing. Fortunately, there are plenty of kinds of exercise that you can enjoy while practicing social distancing. If local restrictions permit, go on a run or a bike ride. Many people are getting into hiking. It’s a great way to get sun and exercise while staying away from others. Other options include bodyweight exercises at home, yoga, jump rope, and Zumba. All these activities can be done without other people. You can even join an online class if you want some help.

Quarantine is what you make of it. This can be the time that your life fell apart, or it can be the time that you overcame a difficult circumstance. The better that you take care of yourself, the more empowered you will be to make positive changes in your life. If you take advantage of this time, you’ll end up coming out ahead of the game.
