Quick answer
Personalized massage is adapted to your current symptoms, activities, goals, pressure preferences, and health history. Instead of following the same routine at every appointment, I adjust each session based on what your body needs that day.
At Vital Kneads Massage in Surprise, Arizona, every appointment is provided by me, Corey Richason, LMT. As a solo massage therapist, I get to know how your body responds and can build on our previous work while adjusting when your needs change.
Your massage should fit your body, not follow a script
No two people walk into my massage room needing exactly the same thing.
Your neck may feel stiff after a week at the computer. Your legs may feel tired after hiking, golfing, or playing pickleball. You may be dealing with an old problem that has started speaking up again, or you may simply need an hour to let your body settle.
That is why I do not follow a cookie-cutter massage routine.
Every session at Vital Kneads Massage is customized around how your body feels, how you move, and what you would like help with that day.

What is personalized massage therapy?
Personalized massage therapy means the session is planned around the individual rather than a predetermined sequence.
I consider factors such as:
Where you feel discomfort or restriction
Which movements have become more difficult
Your daily work and recreational activities
Your preferred pressure
Relevant health information
Areas you want addressed or avoided
How your body responded to previous sessions
Whether your priority is focused work, relaxation, or both
Your massage may include a combination of therapeutic massage, deeper pressure when appropriate, myotherapy, trigger point work, assisted stretching, mobility-focused techniques, hot stones, or other methods within my scope of practice.
The techniques are tools. The real focus is what we are trying to accomplish together.
Your needs can change between appointments
The massage that felt right last month may not be what you need today.
Your body can be affected by:
Changes in activity level
Long hours at a desk or behind the wheel
Travel
Poor sleep
Physical or emotional stress
A new workout routine
Repetitive work
An irritated old injury
More time spent sitting, standing, lifting, or reaching
Even healthy activities create new demands. Returning to golf, increasing your walking distance, or playing more pickleball may leave certain areas working harder than usual.
That is why I treat each appointment as a new conversation. We can build on previous sessions without assuming your body needs an exact repeat.
Start with what you want help with
You do not need to know the names of muscles or request a particular massage technique.
Just tell me what you are noticing.
For example:
“My right shoulder feels restricted when I reach overhead.”
“My lower back gets stiff after sitting at work.”
“My calves have felt tight since I increased my walking.”
“I can turn my head, but one direction feels limited.”
“I have been stressed and want a quieter, more relaxing session.”
These descriptions give me more useful information than simply saying that you need a massage.
It also helps to explain what the problem is interfering with. Difficulty checking your blind spot, swinging a golf club, sleeping comfortably, or getting up from a chair gives me valuable context.
Your session can be focused and relaxing
You do not have to choose between therapeutic work and relaxation.
A session can include focused work in the areas needing attention while still helping you feel calmer overall. Some areas may respond well to firmer pressure. Others may need slower, more patient work.
Deeper pressure is not automatically more effective.
The goal is not to see how much discomfort you can tolerate. The goal is to use an approach that fits your body, your comfort, and the outcome we are working toward.
Communication makes your massage more useful
You are always welcome to speak up during your massage.
Let me know if:
You would like more or less pressure
An area feels especially tender
You want more time spent somewhere
You prefer that I avoid an area
You need a change in positioning
The table temperature needs adjusting
You would rather have a quiet session
Something does not feel right
You are not being difficult by requesting an adjustment.
Your feedback helps me make the session more comfortable and appropriate for you.
The intake conversation matters
Before we begin, I will ask how you have been feeling and whether anything has changed since your previous appointment.
Please mention:
Recent injuries or medical procedures
New pain, numbness, tingling, or swelling
Changes in medication or health
Areas of sensitivity
Changes in exercise or daily activity
What helped after your previous massage
Any soreness or discomfort you experienced afterward
You do not need to repeat your entire health history at every appointment. I do need to know about changes that may affect how I approach your session.
Massage may support relaxation, comfort, recovery, and easier movement, but it is not a substitute for medical evaluation or treatment. New, severe, or unexplained symptoms should be evaluated by an appropriate healthcare professional.
Quiet is a valid preference
Some people enjoy conversation during massage. Others want to close their eyes and enjoy an hour without having to talk.
Both are completely fine.
If you prefer a quiet massage, you can simply tell me. I may still check on pressure, positioning, or comfort when necessary, but you are never responsible for keeping the conversation going.
This is your appointment.
The advantage of seeing the same massage therapist
At a larger massage business, you may work with different therapists from one appointment to the next. At Vital Kneads Massage, you work directly with me each time.
That continuity allows me to remember:
Your pressure preferences
Areas that frequently become tense
Techniques your body responds well to
Approaches that have not been as useful
Changes in your activities or movement
The goals we have been working toward
Consistency does not mean performing the same massage repeatedly. It means using what we have learned while continuing to adjust the work as your needs change.

A checklist for your next massage
Before your appointment, consider these questions:
What feels different in my body today?
Which movement or activity has become less comfortable?
Is there an area I want addressed or avoided?
Do I want focused work, general relaxation, or a combination?
Has anything changed with my health or activity level?
What would make this session feel worthwhile?
You do not need perfect answers. A few honest details give us a useful place to start.
Frequently Asked Questions
What makes personalized massage different from a standard massage?
Personalized massage is adjusted to your current goals, symptoms, activities, pressure preferences, and health considerations. The therapist does not automatically perform the same sequence at every appointment.
Do I need to know which type of massage to book?
No. You do not need to diagnose yourself or select a specific technique. Tell me what you are experiencing and what you would like help with. I will choose and combine appropriate techniques within my scope of practice.
Is every massage at Vital Kneads customized?
Yes. I customize each massage based on your intake conversation, comfort, goals, and how your body responds during the session.
Can my massage include both therapeutic work and relaxation?
Yes. A massage can address specific areas while still providing a calming experience. The balance depends on what you need and want from that appointment.
Does deeper pressure produce better results?
Not necessarily. More pressure is not always more effective. The appropriate amount depends on the area being treated, your comfort, your goals, and how your body responds.
Can I request a quiet massage?
Absolutely. You can let me know that you prefer minimal conversation. I will still check in when necessary for comfort and safety.
Can I ask for more or less pressure during the session?
Yes. Feedback is encouraged. Pressure can be adjusted at any point, and you can also request changes to positioning, temperature, or the areas receiving attention.
Do I see the same massage therapist every time?
Yes. Vital Kneads Massage is a solo massage practice. Every session is provided by me, Corey Richason, LMT.
How often should I schedule massage?
There is no single schedule that works for everyone. Frequency depends on your goals, activity level, budget, schedule, and how your body responds. Some people schedule when a specific need arises, while others use massage regularly as part of their body-maintenance routine.
Where is Vital Kneads Massage located?

Massage that meets you where you are
Your body is not a template, and your massage should not feel like one.
Whether you are dealing with neck and shoulder tension, workout soreness, restricted movement, physical stress, or the everyday wear and tear of staying active, your session should reflect what is happening now.
At Vital Kneads Massage, I take the time to understand what you need rather than automatically repeating the same routine.
